Description
Description
Tomaž Humar found himself in a dire situation while climbing alone on the Rupal Face of Nanga Parbat in August 2005. After attempting a challenging new route up the highest mountain face in the world, he was stranded on a narrow ledge at 19,000 feet with little food and fuel, and constantly facing the danger of avalanches. As the world watched and helicopters awaited a break in the weather to rescue him, the stakes were high for a climber of Humar's renown. But this was not the first time he faced danger and uncertainty; years earlier, he was caught up in a brutal war that he detested and eventually risked his life to leave.
