Angelica's Smile

Salvo Montalbano has been baffled by a recent string of burglaries. The crimes share such distinct similarities and occur with such boldness that Montalbano suspects a criminal mastermind could be behind them. His suspicions are only confirmed when he begins receiving threatening letters from the leader of the gang, a mysterious figure known only as Mr. Z. One of the victims of these burglaries is the beautiful and alluring Angelica Cosulich, whose charms remind Montalbano of the love interest in Ludovico Ariosto's epic poem, Orlando Furioso. Enchanted by Angelica's allure, he finds himself transported to the medieval world of jousts and battles. However, when one of the burglars turns up dead, Montalbano must shake himself out of his reverie and uncover the identity of his adversary.
